STDIO Process Adapter
Documentation status: architecture — see Maturity and evidence.
Purpose
A STDIO adapter connects logiCells to a child process or external engine through standard input and standard output. It is useful when the external program already exposes a stream-oriented protocol such as JSON-RPC or a language-server-style protocol.
Architecture
logiCells capability
-> process adapter
-> stdin/stdout framing
-> external process
Design rules
- STDIO is only a byte/text stream; define framing and request correlation explicitly;
- keep process lifecycle separate from domain object lifecycle;
- propagate cancellation where the external protocol supports it;
- capture stderr separately from protocol stdout when possible;
- treat process crash, malformed output, timeout, and protocol errors as distinct failures;
- do not assume that JSON-RPC, LSP, or another protocol is implied solely by using STDIO.
Status
The public architectural contract is the process/stream boundary. Engine names, server identifiers, and configuration keys are adapter-specific and must be validated against the installed module.
