UXfc — Selection

Documentation status: reference — see Maturity and evidence.

The selection intention describes choosing one or more elements from a contextualized set.

Semantics

The contract may specify:

  • the source of selectable elements;
  • single or multiple selection;
  • validity constraints;
  • returned value or identity;
  • change, confirmation, or cancellation events.

Possible incarnations

A list, autocomplete control, tree selector, grid, or another component may incarnate the same intention.

Boundary

Selection is a user act. The concrete widget, local or remote search, and visual presentation are implementation decisions.
